FOOD ASSISTANCE KITS

GETTING NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO PEOPLE WHO NEED IT

Beginning in December 2018, Feeding Villages has delivered monthly food assistance kits for
pregnant women, elderly, and young children, and others in need in Nangunga, Uganda.

Food assistance kits include fortified rice, bean, peanuts, eggs, and milk.

In 2019, we delivered a total of:

o 1500 kg of rice
o 1000 kg of beans
o 500 kg of peanuts
o 55 units of fortified milk
o 1500 eggs
o 350 bars of soap

Our volunteers hand fill and bag each and every kit.

Our Field Team in Uganda serves as our boots on the ground , performing tasks such as identifying at-risk families, building relationships with local village representatives, and distributing food assistance. We purchase food only from reputable suppliers and we deliver it in person to families. We communicate closely with village representatives to better understand any special needs or requests based on current demand.

Delivering food to each family or individual in need.

Our mission is to improve the access and supply of nutritious, balanced foods to remote villages, with special consideration to pregnant women, infants, children, and the elderly. In the regions we work in, villagers get their calories from almost exclusively from cassava, matoke, and sugar cane. Simply put, this is an unbalanced, nutrient-poor diet. And, substantial research shows that poor nutrition in Uganda and elsewhere in Africa is tied to a whole host of issues such as stunted growth in young children, complications in child-birth, impaired physical/mental abilities, and far worse. According to the U.N. Children’s Fund, poor nutrition is one of the main killers of young children in Africa.

Our leadership team is already looking for ways we can utilize donor funds to grow and sustain our nourishing food assistance program and to later include initiatives to educate villagers on what comprises a balanced diet, providing villages resources to grow/produce nutritious food themselves (Uganda is a very fertile region!), and improve food storage techniques to help food last longer.
