CLEAN WATER

Why Bother with Clean Water?

In Uganda, a staggering 24 million people lack access to safe and clean water, a crisis that disproportionately impacts low-income, rural communities. Contaminated water poses severe health risks, contributing to widespread illnesses such as intestinal worms, dysentery, cholera, and other life-threatening diseases. These waterborne illnesses impair the body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients, further exacerbating malnutrition and weakening immune systems, particularly in vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.

At Feeding Villages, we firmly believe that access to clean water is not a privilege but a fundamental human right. Providing safe water not only safeguards health but also empowers communities to thrive. With improved access to clean water, individuals can focus on education, economic growth, and building a brighter, more resilient future for themselves and their families. Addressing this urgent need is not just an act of compassion—it’s an investment in sustainable development and human dignity.

Clean Water Solutions

Feeding Villages collaborates with local contractors to improve access to safe, clean water by constructing and restoring wells in Uganda. Our process includes digging boreholes, building new wells, and cleaning and deepening existing ones to reach larger underground reservoirs. We utilize different types of technologies to ensure long-term water safety and flow. For example, if we are constructing a borehole well, we seal each well with a durable cement cap, effectively protecting the underground water from debris, contamination, and surface runoff. Using locally sourced materials and labor, we also install heavy-duty hand pumps designed for efficient and reliable water extraction. These cement-capped wells not only provide a secure water source but also strengthen community resilience by promoting sustainable, locally-driven solutions.
